Femi Kuti

14.07.2011

Interview by Montreux Jazz TV

The eldest son of Afro-beat legend Fela, Femi Kuti began establishing himself as an artist independent of his father's legacy in the 90s. Practicing a similar style but offering a more streamlined and accessible version of his father's music, Femi helped the genre - a combination of traditional african rhythms blended with jazz and funk - to the international masses thanks to his eponymous debut album released in 1995. In 2010, he released Africa for Africa recorded in Lagos, an album that definitely proves Femi established his true original and unique style. (FFJM © 2011)
